About Us

The Macedon Ranges Film Society is a membership-based club.

We are an incorporated, not-for-profit organisation, run entirely by volunteers.

We do not operate as a commercial cinema but as a club. Our film screening rights agreement with Distributors means we cannot sell tickets for individual films; only financial members are able to attend screenings.

MEMBERSHIP FOR 2026 IS NOW FULLY SUBSCRIBED.

Our film night is the second Friday of the month, February to December,

(no film in January).

We meet at the Norma Richardson Hall 15 Buckland St. Woodend 3442

The annual membership fee is $80 and covers the following expenses;

Hall hire, purchase of DVDs and screening rights, General and Public Liability Insurance, Membership of the Federation of Victorian Film Societies, Photocopying and other housekeeping expenses and provision of supper.

  • All films are chosen with a broad interest in mind, ensuring that a wide selection of genres is shown and considers any films suggested by members.

  • A list of films is distributed at the beginning of the year (see latest program).

  • Informative film notes are provided on every film night.

  • A typical film length is 90 - 120 minutes allowing a relatively early night for locals.

  • Films are shown in a cinema-like setting using the latest 4k equipment for cinema-quality picture and sound.

  • Supper is provided after the film, usually by members.

  • MRFS has its own film library and members are welcome to borrow films for the duration of one month - not all films are available for loan.

  • For $80 year you get to see 11 films, film notes, supper and convivial company. A sliding scale membership fee applies if you join at any stage during the current season. Minimum membership period is 3 moths.
